The ‘Now We Know’ project
disrupts the normative ‘meaning’ between photo and text, exploring themes of random versus control, of art, artist, context, meaning and other antagonisms.
Consumerism exploits our human frailties and need for order. We believe we understand and are in control.
The process started with two separate people being given the same dates and times to face a certain direction. One takes a photograph, the other writes what they see.
Each concurrent photograph and text were displayed together and shown to other people, who, frustrated, tried to create meaning/order. They then agreed to participate in the same process.
We see a shift from:
· passive viewer/receiver, to
· active participant/creator – engaged in a new/different meaning/language
The artwork will be displayed on screen as a series of consecutive images (although the complete artwork includes the experience, conversations, and continuation of the project).
